This program serves children ages 11-15 who have experienced trauma and exhibit high-risk behaviors. STRTP provides 24-hour care, offering therapeutic interventions such as family therapy and individualized support. It integrates Empowering Wellness principles for caregivers and involves parents through programs like Mommy Matters and Daddy Counts to foster family engagement and healing.

Problem Statement: Children ages 11 to 15 who have experienced significant trauma, high-risk behaviors, and emotional or behavioral challenges often face barriers to accessing specialized, trauma-informed care. Many of these children, including those involved in juvenile justice, runaways, or those with substance abuse issues, require 24-hour residential care to stabilize and prevent further escalation of their conditions. Historically underserved populations, such as BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth, often lack culturally competent, individualized care that addresses both their mental health and the social complexities they face. Without comprehensive intervention, these children are at risk of continued emotional distress, negative life outcomes, and further disconnection from their communities.

Solution Statement: The Therapeutic Play Foundation‘s Short Term Residential Treatment Program (STRTP) offers trauma-informed, culturally competent care for girls ages 11 to 15, providing a safe, nurturing environment where they can receive 24-hour support. The program integrates evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing and Narrative Therapy. These approaches, combined with holistic modalities like play therapy, physical activities, and creative arts, address the unique emotional and behavioral needs of each child. By offering individualized assessments and interventions, TPF’s STRTP helps children build resilience, improve coping skills, and foster stronger connections with their families and communities. Additionally, LGBTQ+ youth are provided with targeted support through family education and connections to local resources, ensuring comprehensive, inclusive care.

Program Goal: Provide trauma-informed, culturally competent 24-hour care to girls ages 11-15 who have experienced significant trauma and exhibit high-risk behaviors. The program aims to stabilize children through individualized therapeutic interventions, build resilience, and foster healing within their families and communities. By integrating holistic and evidence-based practices, the program works to prevent further escalation of emotional and behavioral challenges, empowering children to reconnect with their cultural identities and thrive.
