F.L.O.W.S. Resilience Studio
The F.L.O.W.S. Resilience Studio is an initiative of the Therapeutic Play Foundation and Innovative Wellness Consulting. It brings together trauma-informed, culturally grounded wellness education through a network of group-based learning experiences called Wellness Lab Pathways. Designed for schools, outreach teams, and nonprofit organizations, these Lab Pathways empower individuals and families to build emotional health, deepen cultural connection, and explore long-term well-being through group healing practices.
Grounded in the Brain Well-Being Model® and the Collective Care In Action™ framework, F.L.O.W.S. stands for Feel, Listen, Observe, Wonder, Shift—a five-step journey into healing-centered awareness. Labs are offered in schools, churches, clinics, and neighborhood settings as safe, joyful spaces to promote resilience using art, movement, gardening, storytelling, and co-regulation. Every lab supports wellness from a relational, community-first lens—reinforcing that healing happens best in trusted relationships.
Each Lab Pathway is designed with Social Determinants of Health in mind, addressing how people’s environments impact their mental and physical well-being. Activities draw from core needs such as housing insecurity, trauma, food access, cultural displacement, grief, and social isolation.
Overview of All Wellness Lab Pathways
Each of the five F.L.O.W.S. Wellness Lab Pathways includes two signature labs designed to support group-based healing. These interactive labs reduce depressive symptoms, build trust, and spark community-driven wellness. Facilitators can rotate through both labs over several weeks or tailor them based on group needs. Labs are customizable by age cohort and delivery setting (school, church, housing site, healthcare facility, or community-based organization).
Collective Care in Action™ honors the idea that healing happens through connection. And communities rely on trusted guides, wellness leaders, to model and support healthy practice. Peer Wellness Leaders are trained to be trusted messengers, supportive guides, and cultural champions within their communities with a pathway to wellness and healthcare careers.

These labs elevate community storytelling, increase school connectedness, and engage caregivers and educators in a shared wellness culture. Ideal for parent engagement programs and healing-centered school events.
- Healthy Lifestyles Pathway Labs: Build daily self-care habits rooted in cultural wisdom, energy balance, and food access. These labs help participants create realistic routines while fostering self-awareness, confidence, and goal-setting. In addition to addressing food insecurity and mental fatigue, this pathway serves as a workforce development pipeline—introducing youth and community members to health and wellness careers. Participants can serve as co-facilitators, peer wellness leaders, or interns and gain early exposure to roles in public health, mental health, clinical services, fitness, and nutrition.
- The Pause Pathway Labs: Equip youth and adults with strategies to manage anxiety, overstimulation, and trauma-related stress. Ideal for trauma-exposed learners and neurodivergent populations, this lab fosters regulation through calming environments, breathwork, and personalized grounding tools. Activities promote equity in access to self-regulation support for students and caregivers alike.
- Village Elders Pathway Labs: Focused on aging with dignity, purpose, and shared legacy. Labs invite elders to pass down wisdom through storytelling, gardening, and shared rituals with youth cohorts. These experiences counteract elder isolation, provide space for grief support, and uplift the role of community wisdom keepers.
- Mood Recovery Pathway Labs: Encourage participants to explore emotional awareness and express their feelings through creative outlets such as music, movement, visual art, and narrative writing. These labs are especially supportive for students experiencing chronic stress, social withdrawal, or life transitions such as housing instability, caregiving, or loss.
Workforce Development Integration
F.L.O.W.S. supports a multi-tiered workforce pipeline by:
- Training youth and community members as Peer Wellness Leaders through structured lab co-facilitation
- Supporting Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Lead Care Managers (LCMs) to serve as wellness facilitators
- Offering on-site internship and service-learning opportunities for AA, BA, and MSW students
- Connecting lab participation to broader goals in behavioral health, public health, social work, education, and youth development
Through these integrated efforts, students and community members not only receive care—they become wellness providers, educators, and advocates themselves.
